Biography

Cheng Li is a PhD student studying machine learning and information retrieval at Northeastern University’s Khoury College of Computer Sciences, advised by Professor Javed Aslam. Before coming to Northeastern, Cheng studied mathematics at Shandong University in China, where he earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Mathematics.  His primary goal is to create new algorithms that are both accurate and scalable.

What are your research interests?

I am interested in developing new machine learning algorithms that are both accurate and scalable.

What’s one problem you’d like to solve with your research/work?

I would like to better understand and improve upon the boosting algorithm.

What aspect of what you do is most interesting?

For me, the most interesting part of my work is the combination of theory and practice.

What are your research or career goals, going forward?

I would like to use my research to develop new machine learning algorithms that are both accurate and scalable.

Where did you grow up or spend your most defining years?

I grew up in Jinan, China and studied at Shandong University.
